Why Should Companies Validate Their Ideas?

Feb 17, 2020

So you’ve come up with a new idea, Great! The thing is, not only do you have to figure out who your target market is, but you also have to validate it. Don’t base your “next best thing since sliced bread” off of instinct. Save yourself a future headache in the development and find out if it’s something that is wanted/needed.

DO YOUR RESEARCH

“Put your energy into making things that are likable, not some douchey social media strategy.”

– Matthew Inman, AKA The Oatmeal

It wouldn’t be very productive to start on a project to have it quickly fail. Did you know that the majority of early project failures can be avoided just by determining a need? Here are some strategies that can help:

  • Going to where your target audience is like trade shows and meetups
  • One-on-one interviews
  • Persona Building, which would probably happen after the interviews
  • Surveys

PLAN, PLAN, AND PLAN SOME MORE

After you have some quantitative and qualitative results, find out what your roadblocks are. Roadblocks being internal issues like developer limitations and team resources, and external problems like laws, regulations, and even the user’s workflow.

LET’S GET TO WORK

After you’ve determined that the user wants it, and you can climb over or break through the walls of issues. IT’S TIME TO START DESIGNING. Just remember to test your designs through the project, and quick iterations are your friend.
